Someday I’m going to:
- Take my business to the next level
- Get serious about leveraging what I know
- Write that book that’s been gnawing at my soul for the last 5 years
- Lose the weight that I’ve been incessantly complaining about
- Tell people exactly how I feel and not allow them to intimidate me or sway me to do things I DON’T want to do
- Finally pay down my debt and start saving money as I know I should be doing on a regular basis
- Go in the direction that I know I should go – following my authentic purpose that I was too afraid to follow in the past
- Start my own freelance business that would give me the time and the flexibility I need right now to grow my young family
If I haven’t addressed your “someday wish” that’s ok. Whatever it is – TODAY is that SOMEDAY!
What are you waiting for?
Understand that “someday” is not a particular time in the future. It’s a mind-set habit of dreamily thinking about your goals and desires, but never taking a single step to actually achieve them.
So why aren’t you getting yourself into action TODAY? I bet it’s because you’re waiting for the right time, yes? Or the circumstances are not yet ideal. Or perhaps you’re looking for the perfect recipe that’s going to take you from where you are to where you want to be in 12 simple steps that’s going to guarantee your success.
Life is about using your gifts, talents, and your strengths – EVERYTHING you got – and trying new things. You will get results and you will see whether those results are WHAT YOU WANT. If not, then you simply go back to the drawing board and try again. There is no other way.
Gary Ryan Blair cautions “Your life doesn’t just “happen.” Whether you know it, like it, or simply choose to dismiss this reality, your life is carefully designed by you.”
We cannot afford to live with rescue fantasies and illusions that SOMEBODY or SOMETHING “OUT THERE” is going to magically solve ALL our problems and absolve us of the need to develop our own competence. Our lives are the results of our CHOICES. To blame and accuse other people including our Government, the economy, the environment or other extrinsic factors is to choose to empower those things to control us.
Every moment, every situation, provides you with new choices. At any moment of your life, you can choose to take initiative or to offer up an excuse to wait. Today is the day for you to let go of the excuses and rationalizations that keep you mired in disappointment and frustration.
I want you to really contemplate this quote by Jim Rohn
“If we could capture the mental picture in our minds of how the future will be, given our current direction, perhaps we would become more serious about our lives.”
Read it again.
We are so bent on busyness. If we’re BUSY we feel IMPORTANT. If we’re not busy we concoct stories that suggest otherwise because we are too embarrassed to admit that we have nothing to do. We feel MORE SECURE when we’re busy. We feel validated, wearing our busyness like a badge of honour. But let me ask you this:
What does it matter HOW much we do if WHAT we’re doing isn’t what matters most?
You know what matters most. You have an inner compass in you that will direct your path if only you would slow down long enough to listen. Instead you CHOOSE to fill your time with the artificial high of the urgency fix leaving your fundamental needs and ultimate satisfaction unmet.
George Bernard Shaw tells us
“…this is the true joy in life…being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one…being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy…I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die. For the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It’s a sort of splendid torch which I’ve got to hold up for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”
I’m here to tell you that ‘your SOMEDAY’ has arrived TODAY! You owe it to yourself to enjoy the richness of your own life. This is your moment to take bold, sincere action!
